Looking for ideas for a ChopSaw table for the workshop. Have a Dewalt DW708 (12 inch). Found some track I could purchase from Rockler & Woodhaven. What is a good overall length? How about some pictures from those who have built their own? Also interested in ideas for the ChopSaw dust collection. Thanks, Jerry

Jerry, take a look at the cantilevered miter station I built for my shop...it's based on Chris Gochnour's that was in Fine Woodworking a few years ago. The specific reference is in the article on my site along with a construction pictorial. I used the same DC method as in the New Yankee Workshop that Air Handling Systems designed with two pickups...one under the saw and one on the blade guard. (Your mitersaw must not have a solid base for this design)

I've been satisfied with the one I built. I use Incra track on the wings. The whole unit folds up reasonably compactly. You can get more information at my site www.geocities.com/stevenowilson

Mine was based on Popular Woodworking's "ultimate mitre saw stand"

I have altered it a bit so I can also use it for quick mount/dismount for my square hole maker. The wings fold down neatly.

My 708 is mounted on my bench. It has been evolving over the last couple of years. This pic shows latest incantation. Jim Becker helped me with the down draft port. The next change is to remove the current plate behind the saw and enlarge it significantly. I used to have just one samller hose connected to the DC. As recommended by Jim, I added the down draft and enlarged the hoses going to the saw. Still the messiest tool in the shop but the change has helped very much. I think the bigger hole will improve it more. Good luck.

Jerry,

Great ideas form the other guy's. Let me show you mine also.

I built these tables when I got my new Hitachi 10" slider. They are made from cheap 3/4" melamine shelving I got at Lowes. I have 48" to the left and 24" to the right of the saw.

I built the collection hood from a offset HVAC register boot and some scrap metal. It works fine, but for a a non-slider I would go with something like the others have suggested. The bottom pickup does well if the DW has an open base. If it does not, then a big box with 6" plumbed to it works great. I'll post a pic of the one from my old saw.

The tables are mounted to the bench by these bases.

Here are the finished tables.

I built the fence low enough to allow the flip fence to operate properly.

Here is another view of the completed tables that shows the collection hood. I ran 6" to the hood and 4" to the factory port on the saw.

Here is my old collection hood. This thing worked great for a regular MS, it just won't work with the slider.
