I just bought a DeWalt 317 jig saw. It apparently takes both universal and T-shank blades. Although the directions don't mention either, a T-shank came with the saw. Is it true that the DW317 will take either? And is there a preference when buying blades?

I've got two DW jig saws (corded and cordless), and yes they do take the both blade syles you mention. I've gotten accustomed to buying the T-shank blades which seem to be a bit easier to tell if they're properly seated. Also the Bosch blades that HD carry seem to be a better blade than Vermont American, or Blu-Mol.

I recently had to buy an abrasive blade and it only came in the universal style. It worked fine once I had it seated properly.;)

Count me in for the Bosch T-shanks. They just "feel" better when they're seated. Good blade preformance from Bosch too.

Festool jig saw blades fit any saw that will accept Bosch blades. Try the Festool blades - they have a large selection at reasonable prices:

Click on Filter Accesory List and choose Jigsaw Blades.

In my experience the Festool blades perform very well.
