I've been a member for a while, asked a lot of questions and have yet to give back a picture of a completed project. This sideboard is made mostly of curly cherry, ebony and quartsawn sycamore for the drawers. The pictures really show off the curl, maybe more than you would see if in person. I finished it with General Finishes Arm-R-Seal. I wish I had spent a little more time designing the base but I'm glad its done.36715

Any comments are welcome and to tell the truth the curly cherry is so beautiful it hides my flaws.

I don't think the term "curly" does justice to that material, Chris. Wow...wild. And the sideboard is really great!! Nice job!

Chris,

Love the design. Simple and crisp. Eye popping figure in the wood too. Great piece.

"Extreme" curly cherry to say the least!

Where did you get that outstanding lumber?

Nice job!

Phil,

I didn't find that wood here in Denver. I actually bought some wood for my dining room table and chairs from a guy on Ebay. Bought a lot from him and another guy from there too.

I think its a good thing the design is simple because a intricate design would fight with the wood for dominance. You must get a thrill every time you walk by your piece. Great job.

That's some goegeous wood, Chris. I'll bet it shimmers like it has batteries inside or something. Great job on the sideboard.

Chris, very, very nice. The figure on the wood is outstanding. You did a nice job bringing this whole project together.

WELL, you asked for any comments

I think that the wood actually detracts from the piece. The design is great, as is the execution of said design.

However, I think there is too much "curl" or "figure" and that it detracts from the over all ambience of the piece.

Mark, thanks for your honesty. I can see your point, escpecially on a large piece. I was a little worried when putting the oil on. My last two coats were satin to tone it down a little. It actually isn't as curly as it appears and not as glossy. My camera really made the curl stand out.

Thanks for everyones input.

Wow! I love the finish. Can you decribe the process you used?

George,

I am no expert on finishing. I use General Finishes Arm-R-Seal. I start with 3-4 coats of the Gloss and then 2-3 of the Satin. Just wipe it on with a rag or foam brush and wipe off being careful not to apply too much pressure. The last few coats I just brush on and don't wipe off.
