I recently picked up a moisture meter at a garage sale which has pins. Should the meter be used in end grain or somewhere in the side of the material being tested? Never used one before but the price was right (no instruction manual) How deep should the pins be inserted?
We get all our material shipped into the valley here in Arizona, I usually purchase material and let it sit in the shop for a few weeks before using. Picked up 100 board/Ft. of Alder for a great price before the price goes thru the roof due to fuel charges.:(

Sounds as though your purchase was a good deal. Check the maker on the web. Often they will post manuals. The pins should go in a 1/4 inch or so. The outside of most boards will read low (often won't register). You generally have to cut one open in order to get an accurate read. Also, there are settings on most moisture meters that adjust for the type of wood. What type is it? Another Creeker may have a manual handy.
