Hello,

Well today was my first attempt at bottle stoppers. I made 7 and gave a couple to neighbors today. They are kind of fun with quick gratification. They are all finished with Deft Clear followed by the Beall system. I am slowly getting more comfortable turning but those catches even on something small sure wake you up quick. I took a couple of pics one with flash and the other without. I think my favorite shaped one is the zebra wood with the hershey kiss top.

Have a good weekend.

Look great to me Kyle! What's the Deft Clear? What kind of finish is it? Bottle stoppers will have to be on the list for my Christmas gifts!

Kyle those came out great. I like the finish. I almost always use the Deft Clear Lacquer. It leaves a great finish. Isn't it amazing when things are going well and you are not paying attention like you should. Then boom.

Very nice Kyle!! If you run out of wine bottles to put those in you
could always go into the Vampire hunting business..;) .

Kyle,

Those look great!! My favorite is the zebrawood "hershey kiss". I really like the look of zebrawood and want to try some of those "someday". Where is the best place to get the hardware and to purchase zebrawood?

John,

Here is what I found to be a very good site to get the stoppers and some other turning items. http://www.arizonasilhouette.com/Bottle_Stoppers.htm
Really nice guy to talk to and excellent shipping prices because they use USPS Priority mail (this is a very nice service living in Alaska).

As far as the wood I had some sitting around but usually most places that sell the hardware will also sell precut blanks from wood, acrylic, etc.

Hope this helps.

Great stoppers Kyle! I agree with liking those places that ship via the Post office to Alaska! You should put a hook on one of those... With Sitka being the best king salmon fishing area in the world, you could market them as bottle stoppers/salmon lures.......

I found a good price on the chrme bottlstopper kits at http://www.woodnwhimsies.com $1.99 each, and shipped via Priority Mail.

Again, nice work.

Thanks Barry. I checked out the site, great prices. Have you used some of these stoppers? I know there are some places which sell with the lower prices but I have heard that the quality has been a bit on the low side. It would be interesting to know.

Hello Kyle,

Yes I've used a few. They come in a P.S.I. box and my best guess is that they are the same as most folks sell. The difference is the regular price is 1.99 where you need to buy 100 or more most places to get them at 1.99.

Is where I get my stoppers they are Stainless steel, and I just think that they make a better looking finished product. they aren't as long as the chrome ones, and I prefer that look.
