Turning Afzelia and Amboyna Burl...

I have a couple pen blanks of Afzeiia and Amboyna Burl to turn. Do these have to be stabilzed before turning? I got them from Woodturningz, they are very pretty but they didn't say they were stabilized. Are these burls tricky to turn?

I have turned several of both soecies and have not stabilized these blanks, only keep the Ca thin handy and stop and watch for cracks, checks, etc. in each blank. Then I finish with Ca thin and Deft Laquer buffed with Carnuba wax.

Yep...I've done these two too. Like Jim sez...watch for catches and keep your tools sharp...You won't be disappointed. Those woods make gorgeous pens!
