Hello everyone. First off let me say that I'm new to woodworking and also new to the forum. Please excuse me if I ask silly questions. I'd like to know where to buy lumber in the Houston area, besides the Home Depot and Lowes. I found several lumber yards in town, but they don't seem to service to individuals. Thanks in advance for any suggestions. :o

The two places I like to visit are:
Clark's Hardwood Lumber Co. - 700 E 5-1/2 St 713.862.6628
Houston Hardwoods - 4910 W 34st. 713.686.6176

Both places have a great selection of hardwood and various plywoods.
And yes, Clarks is on 5 -1/2 St., that is not a typo.
They are not cheaper than Lowes but the quality and selection are significantly better.

Liem,
Another option is here:
Mason's Mill & Lumber Co.
9885 Tanner Road
713-462-6975

The Delta/Porter Cable service center is near Masons. You might find a good deal on refurbished tools.
4321 Sam Houston Parkway, West
Suite 180

Hi Liem,

Almost everything I get comes from Mason's Mill with the exception of an occasional trip to Houston Hardwooods for stuff like MDO or small quantities of exotics. Mason's Mill has better prices on almost everything, the only downside is that they're not open in the evenings, or on weekends so I have to cut out of work early if I need something.

By the way, Welcome To SMC! I think you'll like it here.
Cheers

FYI
Houston Hardwoods will fax you a price sheet.

Clarks is more expensive than Houston Hardwoods but they have a larger selection.

If you don't see the sizes or quality you are looking for at Clarks then ask someone, they have a lot of nice stuff in back that they don't advertise for us weekenders.
