9" x 5" English Walnut bowl with a raised and carved ring. This was some very punky wood that used up a lot of CA to stabilize it. It was my first attempt at carving a raised accent ring. Carved with a small v-gouge. The punky wood made it hard because it kept breaking apart. It has a lot of nice color and grain in it though.

Beautiful color, awesome swirls in the grain - really nice bowl!
I can see the some of the cracks - great job keeping it together.
Can you tell me ore about how you carved the band? Did you do
it with the piece still on the lathe? Did you use the lathes indexing
or some other method?

Again, looks great!

Hey...that's a pretty dazzling piece of wood you got there Curt!! Doesn't look like you had any trouble with it at all!:)

Thanks everyone.

Dave, I turned it leaving a raised area for the carving and then didn't get to it for a week. I took it off the lathe to carve it using a ryobi power carver (had the carver for a few years and finally took it out of the box). Did the carving freehand so its not real even. When I tried to re-mount it after the carving it had warped too much to finish on the lathe. So I had to do what I could by hand. Up close there are lots of tool marks and tear out. But like I said, it was a really pretty piece of wood.
