My drive spur is a pretty typical type that came with the lathe. It has never been really satisfactory but recently has worn down to where it doesn't hardly hold at all. Some on the market are quite costly and I don't like experimenting with my money. :) What is a really good drive spur? Advice and reccomendations solicited. Thanks.

Packard woodwork carries several.

I usually sharpen the tips on mine. Hand file or dremel. Yea. I'm cheap on that one!! Use them till theres nothing left to sharpen.

I bought one of these to replace mine. Pricey, but sweet! :D :D

Haven't had a problem with it spinning like the 4 blade one that came with my lathe.

Frank I am getting one of the spur drives that Joe is talking about. I have had the same problem. One thing I have found that stops that somewhat is to file you spur drive to make it sharp and then with the fence in place I cut a groove in the shape of a T about 1/8" deep. Then make sure your spur points grab in that groove. Seems to work pretty good but in some woods will still tear out.
