Anyone have any luck spalting Bradford pear. I picked up alot of BIG peices recently and I am thinking of putting them cutside down in the dirt to try and spalt them. has anyone had any luck with spalting bradford pear or has anyone seen spalted bradford pear.

/drive by gloat..the hackberry already has some spalting and a hollow center.

No experience here... but IMO BP is too pretty to let it spalt... :D

The way I was told to spalt wood is seal the top end and leave the bottom (in the dirt) unsealed. Worked for me on some Gum and Pecan.

I like it too, Mark...just try to picture what that would look like with some black line highlights.

I had a piece from a neighbors pear tree(standing dead) that was beyond hope..crumbled in your hands. It was the filled with razor thin black lines..looked like lace. Thats why I figured I would try a few pieces. I was also curious if this is how it spalts or if others have seen it do other things.

Yep, might as well since you have a big stash of it (you lucky sucka).

Good luck and keep us posted.
