How do you clean or buff the lever cap on a plane that you are refurbishing?
Thank you

First I just remove any rust with a 3-m pad or the like, and then I make sure the contact surface is smooth so that it applies pressure evenly to the breaker/blade combination. Usually this just takes a small bit of work on a fine India stone. Otherwise, it pretty much stays like it is, since I am working on tools to use, not look at.

I just get rid of the rust, make sure it seats correctly as prior post indicates, and buff it up on my buffing wheel with some jewler's rouge. Looks pretty.
