white kitchen cabinets

I've made a couple of pieces for a neighbor, who pays well, that now wants a set of kitchen cabinets. he wants the cabinets white, with maple frames for the doors and frame and panel drawer fronts. I don't like melamine and was thinking of birch ply sprayed white and poplar face frames sprayed white. Maple frames would be harder and perhaps more durable but I'd dislike painting them white. Any comments?

Soft maple for frames and doors and look into white lacquer.

Target makes a white sanding sealer and you can color their USL any color you want with universal colors, transtinits or Golden Artist colors.

I have not used the colored USL yet but am planning to very soon.

You could also lay up panels with vertical grade lam or purchase panels already made that way.

Curious to hear how it comes out.

If he wants them painted white why does he specify the use of maple?

He wants the carcasses and frames white. I figured to use poplar or maple for the face frames as they should paint up nicely. I'd thought about checking out a colored USL since I like the clear. Thanks for reminding me.

He wants the frames of the doors and drawer fronts maple. I've never made frame and panel drawer panels but I figure to rabbet the frames for the panels to keep the backs flush for attachment. Not sure where he came up with the idea. I'm drawing it all up in "sketchup" for a better visualization before I start.

I sprayed my white cabinets with Target Coatings PSL (now USL) matt white followed by PSL (now USL) satin clear. Looks great and they still look like new three years later. Carcases are birch plywood with poplar face frames.
