Hi all,
Has anyone ever put laser etched or sandblasted glass in a dishwasher? I have read that dishwashers may cause etched glass to shatter. I was wondering if this was true. I do sandblasted and now laser etched glass. I have had people ask me if it is ok to use a dishwasher to wash their etched glasses. I always tell them what I have read and that I don't recommend it. I do not have a dishwasher to try this out. Thank you.

actually when we set up my laser we used one of our regular drinking glasses to test the rotary attachment.
one year later there have been no mishaps.

myth debunked...

Ian,

Have you tried it on the bottom near the heating (dry) element? I'm thinking the only thing that might affect it would be that high heat.
BTW I have no clue, just that I usually try to error on the safe side
and am curious why the dishwasher would be an issue. I have a couple
of etched beer mugs and they have been fine for years but we never
use the heating element to dry, just the blowing air.

Maybe tell them dishwasher OK if you air dry without the element on?

actually we don't use the heater, but i really can't imagine it being an issue.
the glass is not tempered, and the change in temperature is not a drastic swing that could cause stress on the glass.

anyway- i'm not a rocket scientist, just practical...
