Hello everyone. I'm new here (well, not quite true. I've been lurking for quite a while ). I've seen some amazing pictures of quality workmanship and would like to share a recent completed project of my own.

The following pics are of a hall table. The legs and aprons are made from Bloodwood. The top is veneered Zebrawood with Wenge edging.

Pic #1: Initial prep of the leg stock.
Pic #2: Leg and apron stock.
Pic #3: Finished prep of leg and apron stock. Legs are a four way taper. All pieces scraped (obvious by all the shavings on my bench ).
Pic #4: Dry fit of top to aprons. It sits in a rebate on the top of the aprons.
Pic #5: Start of the glue up for the legs.

More to come..

These should have probably been posted before some of the previous ones. Oops.

Some detail shots of the table and an up close of the double mortises in the legs. The top edging not yet flushed to the veneered zebrawood.

Finally, these are some pics of the completed table "installed" in our foyer. The finish is 1 coat of Seal A Cell with 3 coats of Arm A Seal Semi Gloss. I used 0000 steel wool in between coats. All in all it took me 4 weekends to complete.

Thanks for looking!

That's a great looking table Dana!

Welcome to Saw Mill Creek. I have learned a lot here in the two years that I have belonged and I hope that you do the same. Although, judging by your work and by what I can see of your shop, you have a lot less to learn than I did.

Very nice.

Only drawback with that beautiful bookmatch top is that you resent anything that gets placed on top.:)

You're shop looks similar to mine, complete with bike-shaped jig hooks/coatracks. Glad I'm not the only one.

Dana, what a beautiful job you did on this table, and what a great looking contrast there is in the woods you chose!! Wow! I'm really impressed, this is beautiful!

I've seen that Seal A Cell advertised, and had thought about using it on walnut, and after seeing your table, I'm going to try it for sure! Welcome to the Creek, and I'm looking forward to seeing more of your work!

I also love the table and the choice of woods. That bloodwood must be a bear to work with, look at what it did to your TS blade.

Welcome to the Creek!

Welcome to the Creek.... 4 weekends to complete it too WOW that is speedy :D I think in that time I would have probably just selected the wood I was planning on using. Keep showing us your stuff :D as well as how you were able to complete it so fast. :)

I'm Curious about your last name, is it Indian? not too many woodworkers in/from south Asia.

Dana,

Wonderful job ! I love Satine, it is wonderful to work with and looks stunning when finished. Do I see hints of David Marks in there ? What was your inspiration for this table ?

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. I'm glad you all like the table.

Nice work.

Nope, its Finnish ;)

Keith
My inspiration was my wife telling me over and over again that I need to replace the table I swiped for a table stand for our new TV. You know, one of those "we'll just use this temporarily" kind of things. Oh, and yes, I watch alot of WoodWorks

I've seen that Seal A Cell advertised, and had thought about using it on walnut, and after seeing your table, I'm going to try it for sure! Welcome to the Creek, and I'm looking forward to seeing more of your work!
This was the first time I used the Seal A Cell/Arm R Seal combo. I wish I had used it earlier. It really makes finishing a no-brainer (at least for me). Very easy to apply and control the level that you want.

I also love the table and the choice of woods. That bloodwood must be a bear to work with, look at what it did to your TS blade.

Welcome to the Creek!
Bloodwood is DENSE, but does it ever take well to a card scraper. Smells good too! :o

Hehe, I didn't mention the 3 weeks I spent deciding which wood to use ;)
