Somebody goofed! :o I'm sure it was the plan designer. Yeah, right...
Every chest/box that I've built, ended up with stiles that were the same widths on the ends as the front (after gluing into rabbets). Due to the aformentioned error, I will either need to trim 1/4" off both stiles on the ends of the box or add a 1/2" to the top some way. Being the 'energetic' feller that I am... I am opting for trimming the 1/4". But I've not seen that done and can't exactly visualize it. I drew it and it doesn't look bad in the drawing. The front stiles are 3 1/8". The end stiles would become 2 7/8 or maybe 1/16" less.
I have found it difficult to match existing pieces in another place of short material on this chest. (Not MY fault again! ) So I hate to add to the top besides the extra work.
Do boxes ever have stiles on the ends that are different from the front? I mean chests that end up looking good.
David, the one who didn't make the misteak...
