Hickory Box

Here is a Hickory box I made from some wood from John Hart. It had a big knot and one smaller one. I was a little shakey about how it would turn out but it came out just fine. I thought it really came out pretty nice. The LOML like it and it is sitting on her dresser. I finished it with Mylands Friction Polish and a couple of coats of lacquer. It is 5" tall and 3" across.

Hickory???? I never knew hickory could turn out that nice! I use it a lot in BBQing, but now I may have to steel some of that stash and throw it on the lathe instead :eek: :p

Way to go Bernie! I have turned several boxes from hickory and found it to be a nice wood for box turning as long as it was dry. I think if you look back through my posts you will see at least 2 boxes from hickory. You are progressing nicely. Keep up the good work.:D

Nice box, Bernie! That Hickory looks good. The form reminds me of the St. Basil's boxes Mike and Cody have done. Looks great!

Thanks everyone. It was kinda touch and go because I figured the knots would give way. I just took light cuts and all worked out.
