Well, it survived. In fact, it did a little better than I expected. I was fairly amazed tonight when I put this on the lathe to turn the foot, that it was still perfectly round. So, just for the record....I turned it to 1/4" wall thickness green, soaked in DNA over night, it sat on top of some shavings all day, then I doused it with the Epoxy Manhatten, let that cure 24 hours, sanded in my lap to 320, finished with the not-so-secret finish. (4 applications)

I'll let this sit another day and french polish it with the same stuff...but all in all, I'm happily surprised. Thanks for lookin'.:)

Beautiful John. Really nice workmanship. Even if it had of warped it would still be a piece of art.

Great lookin bowl John. How did you keep ALL that bark on. I have a real problem with that much staying in place.

Yikes!! That is incredible. So glad it didn't go the other way. Walnut is my favorite wood of all. Also suprised how the green went away and now looks more like traditional walnut. Just a spectacular piece in my opinion!

That is just too beautiful. I love natural edge bowls.
Someday when I get really brave, I'll attempt one.

Thanks everyone...I hope this wasn't a fluke and I can get my future work to turn out as nicely. Just gotta keep that Jim Ketron sanding mentality in my head.:o

How did you keep ALL that bark on.
Bruce...this works for me....After I have the outside profile cut to the shape I like, I hollow out the bowl to maybe a 1/2" wall, then lay the skew flat on the toolrest with the point of the skew right at the lip and the tool oriented at the angle of the shape of the outside. Then I drive the skew straight in, following the curve as I go, at the wall thickness I want. This makes the point the only cutting surface. Seems to treat the bark pretty well and you have good control.

John,

As with all your projects.... this one is spectacular! I think you just about out done yourself on this one though. That thing is AWESOME!

That is right purdy! Does any of that bark flake off and get in your ice cream?

Wow John, that looks great. I think (I know) I'm going to have to give your method a try. Too if I mess THIS one up, I'll have someone else to blame.
:p

Thanks for explaining your system.

Well...tell you the truth Ernie...I'm really not sure why this worked so well. It goes against everything I've been told. Must be a fluke.

There...Now you can't blame me.:D :p
