I am making a number of cigar humidors and have not found a good hinge most require mortising . I do not want to have to buy a motising machine for this but I will if I have too.
Has anyone used a router to do this ? other ways like a Lamello hinge?
Any help appreciated

Most humidors use mortised quadrant hinges and are best installed with a router. Could be done with a drill press and hand chisel.

I used quadrant hinges on a box I made and drilled the relief holes with a drill press. For the part that needs to be inset, I used a chisel. Not too difficult but I was only doing one box - two hinges.

I ended up making the outer sides of mine too thin for quadrants so I went with the smallest Brusso butt hinges I could find using the router to set them in. Looks fine but they do stick out the back a bit. If I were to do it over I'd make the sides a bit thicker so could use the small Brusso quadrants.

If these boxes are to be quality boxes I would recommend quadrant hinges which can be easily routed with a router and a home made template. Doug Stowe, in his books, shows a simple way to make the necessary template. Hard to beat the look of a fine quadrant hinge. IMHO.
