Well I've got the day off, "SWMBO" is at work. Just Dogzilla and me at home, so it's time to try the new Rikon. I had a couple Camphor wood bowl blanks, I previously roughed out on the venerable shopsmith. I checked it, about 10% moisture. So on the lathe it went.
The first one had serious knots, and defects.
The second one turned out good. It ended up about 4" in diameter, and about 1 3/4" high. The Magic garage again smells like it's been disinfected. I have the lathe temporarily mounted on the work bench with clamps. The height is perfect. It's a lot better on my back then the Shopsmith was.
The bowl is sanded to 320, finished with wax and buffed Ala Richard Raffan.
This time the bowl gouge worked a lot better, I finished turned it with a scraper, sharpening it on the Tormek several times.
I think I'm going to be brave and tackle a 6" bowl on the piece of Ambrosia maple I bought at Woodcraft.

That "little" lathe is turning some pretty good bowls! I hope my Jet MiniVs will do the same! Nice bowls!

Thanks for the compliment.
Those are mostly "Greenlee" tools. I got them somewhere or other when I was in the Navy.
Unfortunately I have to work this week end.:(

What I like is that well worn, well used, messy thing you call a shop.

It's NICE!

Nice bowl. Size is all in perspective! I'm short, not for my weight but for my aggressive nature:)

Jim, nice job on those with your new lathe. I like the form near the bottom. Seeing other's work always gives me ideas.
I'm curious, what method did you choose to reverse chuck the bowl to get the clean bottom.
