Hopefully this isn't too far OT but I'm trying to set up my basement for use as a temporary shop until I get my detached shop built. I need to have the following electrical work done...

In my unfinished basement:
Install subpanel right next to the existing panel.
Hook up two circuits with 4 or 5 receptacles each.
Install two 220v receptacles.
No fishing here, conduit will probably be needed.

Also, in four bedrooms: I need a ceiling fan installed in each. Wiring needs to be done for these. This is not related to the shop (obviously) but I figure I'll get it all done at once.

I just got an over-the-phone estimate of $1350 for all of this. Does that sound about right? I realize I can do most of this myself but I'd rather not spend the time right now.

Yes, that sounds about right.

Last year, I had roughly the same work you are wanting done. I added three flourescent lights and wiring was run from one end of the house where breaker was located to a sub panel in my garage.

two drops with a 4 receptacle 110v
two 220v drops
60 amp subpanel
3 lights
wiring, some conduit

My bill came out to $1800

A subpanel with 4 circuits, all in conduit, plus 4 ceiling fans, installed with wall switches, I'd say that was a good quote, or at least it seems reasonable to me.

Sounds reasonable....:)
