Here are the first (2) Slate Pot calls I've ever made - along with the first strikers I've ever made.

It was fun & a special Thanks to Tim Sandford for the slate for these 2 beauties! This was a lot of fun & they actually sound pretty good as well

Maple Slate/Slate and Red Oak Stale/Glass

A Maple & Walnut Striker, it is amazing the pitch difference between the 2 strikers!

I showed these to a couple of friends this weekend and now I've got orders from each of them.

Now I've go tto try my hand at a box call!

Between these turkey calls and the pens, my wife's gonna shoot me for spending time making these instead of the End Tables for the living room!

Excellent Kurt! This is on my project list... just need to make some time for it before next year. Our season here opens this coming weekend.

Nice work and thanks for the pictures!

Turkey calls look mighty fine. My brother made about a half dozen of those a couple of years ago. They work great. Great work Kurt.

Thanks for the pictures.

What can I say Kurt except they look great :) I don't know anything about what makes a quality turkey call as I generally get my turkey's at Kroger:D

I don't need a turkey call. I get a parade of 20 to 30 boids outside the shop twice each day all year round. Silliest looking things ever. But tasty!

I've got a thing for game calls and those are some beauties. I've always wondered how you work one of those though. I've made a couple box turkey call that make my wife about half crazy (the other half) but haven't ever known how to do those kind.

Kurt,

Good looking stuff.

I made a striker for a bud last week from some really old cherry. He had a walnut one that he really loved, but the cherry one sounded so much nicer. He was pretty surprised. This is a really "anal" caller, state champ, high on the nats list, etc. I bought some yew, bubinga and rosewood to try to see if I can get the resonance a bit different. The striker makes more difference than one would think, and the bell area is really important.

If your wife asks you about the end tables, tell her that the study of resonance and harmonics as they interact with ancient minerals and fibrous biological materials is your focus at present.............. :)

Is there a source for the slate other than older calls?

Thanks.

There are a few places you can get the parts for making this type of call. Here's a couple.

Grassy Creek Game Calls at http://www.grassycreekcalls.com

Custom Sawing at http://www.callkits.com/

There is a guy in Pennsylvania that sells slate, glass & crystal, http://www.brooksidegamecalls.com/asp/

Chip Browns' website http://www.calltrader.com has instructions as does the other 2 I've listed.
