Well....just to prove that I do still turn the lathe on once in a while, here is a bowl I just finished for my MIL and FIL as a late birthday gift. Their birthdays are March 16 & 17 respectively. So here it is.

Northern Elm
12-1/4" across
4" high
BLO and MS applied in 3 coats
Buffed and dried for 2 days
Buffed a final time
Presented it to them before they leave for home at 5:30AM Sunday morning.

Very nice, Dennis. The form is excellent, the finish is great and the wood looks well displayed. You need to turn more and post more as well.:D

Your curves on this one are so right. The finish makes it a bowl you want to pick up and touch.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. I still keep working on technique, form, wall thickness and such as that as I feel that I'm no where as good as many of you are, but I'm trying my best to change that.

Once I get these flatwork projects out of the way, my turning will take on a whole new form.  :)

Good Morning Bob, well let's just say that I didn't "want" to try the skew on this one as my in-laws just left and my time to get their bowl finished was very limited.

HOWEVER....(now...don't go trying this at home, it dangerous to both you and your bowl), I DID use a skew on a 6" Cherry bowl on the outside.
Did it work? Sure it did. Did you get any catches? Yup....thinner walled bowl by "force" in order to get out the skew catch.:o :(
I really need a taller post on my tool rest to see if I can get it high enough to be effective with the skew on the outside of a bowl. If I can, it will be really, REALLY Cool!!!!!!
