Tried tagging this on another post, but it got lost.

I've got a 16" wood/metal with the four step pulley and the two speed gearbox. This is the motor pulley.

35356

The motor is a 3ph, 1/2HP, 702rpm back geared. 1/2" shaft. Should I stick with a 1/2HP 1/2" shaft, 1,750 rpm 48 frame, or should I decide on a single speed and go with a bigger 56 frame motor? There aren't any four step pulleys with bigger bores and the same diameters. I've only found 1/2" bore.

I'm not going to use it for metal, and will still have the gearbox for two speeds.

Thanks,
Rich

Walker Turner equipment was very well made. If you are concerned about over powering it I suggest you not worry and go with more HP. This especially since the original motor has a built in speed reducer - If I understuud you correctly.

I am assuming it was back geared for metal cutting??
You want to cut wood so you need the power and speed up front. A speed reducer amplyfies power converting that 1/2 horse to something greater. I'd put something larger than a single horse on it.

I want it for wood cutting only. The drive pulley is 2" and increments by 5/8" to 3 7/8". I might be able to get a 2 step pulley for a larger motor.

Is @ 3,000 & 4,000 fps good.

thanks,
Rich

3000 to 5000 sfpm are good speeds for a wood cutting BS. If you are only going to cut wood, just make a choice as to the speed you want. I would try to increase the HP to at least 1 hp or larger
