or see one up close and personal? I wanted to get some first hand impressions of this machine. Is the trunion similar to the PM66? How about the table top? I'm trying to find one to look at in OC, CA. Any comments on the PM2000 would be appreciated. Thanks.

There have been at least two reviews of the PM2000 over on woodnet.

Hope that helps

I saw one at a dealer yesterday. It looks like a very nice saw.. Dealer said that the castings are as good or better than the ones on the 66. It has a larger table, dust hood up under the blade & built in casters. If I was in the market for a table I would have the 2000 at the top of the list.
This is from Unisaw owner.

I've got last years PM 66 and noticed the 2000 at the dealer's yesterday. Not sure about the trunions, I can confirm what Chris said about the rest of it. Don't forget the riving knife. Also, a small feature I would love the off button is huge and raised away from the box so it is much easier to hit.

I have the PM2000 and it is as the others have stated. Fit and finish are excellent and the cast iron top is larger than a PM66 (as I found out when Woodcraft sent me home with an extension table for a 66 instead of mine!)

I haven't had the opportunity to engage the rolling base yet as there is a metal sleeve connecting 2 shafts together as part of the cranking mechanism that cracked near a set screw that attaches it to the shaft. PM is sending me a new part. This doesn't impact the saw's use - just it's mobility and this baby is heavy!

As the weather has gotten warm I don't mind giving up the center of my garage bay to this beauty though! :D

I know...no pics it didn't happen! will try and get some pics up later if anyone wants them...

I'd like to see pics of your new saw, and I'd imagine a bunch of others would, too.

Here are the PM2000 pics....

The beast: 35345

Riving Knife: 35346

Dust shroud (kind of hard to see): 35347

Now for the bad thing - the silly little bushing that cracked: 35348

As you can see the bushing doesn't have very much material between the set screw and the edge, and takes a pretty good load when the integrated mobile base is engaged. I got the impression PM had heard of this failure before when I spoke to them...

at the local shop and it looks even better in person than in the pictures. Very impressive. It is made in Taiwan, but that wouldn't stop me as long as the QC in their factory is on the mark.

It simply looks higher quality and modern. The quick release riving knife is very cool. Hopefully it stays aligned, but it is beefy so I'm guessing it will. Someone else in the shop said something to the effect of "I can see paying 2 grand for that but not that (PM66)".

Goleeeeee......that thing is Shore Purdy.:D It looks like one other thing they have changed is that the table wings have Square corners on them again like the old PM-66's had instead of the rounded ones like on my 66. This makes a nicer fit with the extension table IMHO. What is the size of the table? How many drive belts does it have, 3?, 2?, 1? I would assume that it doesn't have a Baldor motor though, since coming from Taiwan?

I sure believe I could go for one of those though.;)

Shweeeet! Thanks for the pics, and congrats on a fine-looking saw. Someday I hope to have a saw of that caliber.

Is the 2000 considered a hybrid saw? Is a replacement for the 66?

Curious as to which plant in Taiwan makes the PM 2000? I'm wondering if it's the same plant as the Grizzly G1023's- the handwheels on the latest G1023's and the PM 2000 appear identical.

Jut wondering what brand of motor this PM2000 uses. Is it a Baldor or another like Jet uses?

derek, i feel safe in saying if they put a baldor motor under the hood then that would be displayed prominantly in the advertisments...02 tod

The next issue of FWW (May/June 06) has a review of 10" cabinet saws. It can be seen now at their FWW Network site.

For what it is worth, they rated the PM2000 and the Sawstop 31320 as best overall and the Griz G1023SL as best value. They had pretty good things to say about the General as well.
