Birdseye Maple Ring Box...

This is another new shape I am working on for my ring boxes. When I put the lid on the box for the first time all I could think of was Michael Rennie's spaceship in "The Day the Earth Stood Still". It doesn't look exactly like a flying saucer but....

I guess this is one of those things that loses something in translation from the horizontal presentation on the lathe to the vertical form on a table top.

Anyway, out of birdseye maple which sure does finish up nicely, this box is slightly over 4 5/8" in diameter and a little under 3" tall.

Klatu barada nikto! May the force be with you! Twas the beast that killed the beauty...or whatever....:p :(

Yep...I don't see anything out of place on this Big Mike. The box itself has that wonderful shape of a bowl and the lid is befitting. Almost looks like an oriental flare. Nice!!:)
