This is a black walnut platter I just finished, it had one split that I used chrysacola and epoxy to fill after I widened it a little with a dremel tool. It's 15-3/8" by 1-1/2" tall with a wall thickness of 1/4", I finished it with Tung oil followed by buffing.

That sure is nice, Frank. How many coats of tung oil did you use before you polished it? How long did it have to dry before polishing?

Hi George, I put 5 coats on and let it dry in the house for 3 days were it would stay warm before buffing.

That is a beautiful piece, Frank.

Glad to see that you're making good use of that white iron. And did you notice that our ranks swelled again yesterday - Greg Savage joined the Knights of the Round Table (http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?t=33874)

I saw that, I really like the idea of the stainless bed rails, when I start roughing out green walnut I have to steel wool my bed rail otherwise it'll rust over night. You should see the concrete floor under my lathe, It's dark purple.
