The PM 66 cannot have a riving knife, but there is a Bies Splitter that is available :D The new PM2000 does have a riving knife though

I've got the Biesemeyer splitter on my PM66. I highly recommend it.

I use a hardwood splitter on my PM66. It is .005" thicker than the blade and centered on the blade. It keeps the wood from closing on the blade and pushes the wood into the fence. For me, it works really great. On the PM66, you can mount it on the adjustable stud that is right behind the blade on the arbor support. The stud as a locknut and you can control its position in relation to the blade to get your splitter centered. If you want pics, may tomorrow when I am in the shop I can get some. I use a zero clearance throat place and the opening for the splitter is loose for clearance.

You could probably drill tap and spot face a place for one behind the blade on the trunion.

I threw my riving knife and guards away when I bought my TS over 30 years ago. Never missed 'em.

Did get one kick back, it was a doozie too. A 3' * 5" block of mahog I was roughing for a guitar neck. Knocked a dent in a cement block in the wall behind me.
Never did that again.

Have you thought of making the splitter yourself? I have a Delta removable splitter but only use the mounting bracket. I like my shop-made splitter (http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/hoa_dinh@sbcglobal.net/detail?.dir=5ac0&.dnm=d1c4.jpg&.src=ph) better. It is thicker than the Delta, closer to the blade, and low enough to be used with the pair of GRR-Rippers that I have.

Cost: $35 for the Delta removable splitter, and $7 for a heavy duty trap from HD (enough to make 3 splitters).

There already is an adjustable mounting stud. See my earlier post.

Then you're golden. It's just a matter of getting the shape you want .

I had a Beis splitter on the PM66 I use to have, works well. You can also use the supplied guard and just remove (un bolt) the kickback pawls (junk) and the side guards - works fairly well, just takes a minute to remove/replace.

Here are some pictures of the splitter on my PM66. A lot of pictures, but they tell the story.

The oak piece is .130" and I run .125" blades. It reduces the burning to almost zero and helps with kickback.

I wanted to add a riving knife to my PM66 when I had it completely in pieces to clean the trunnions and dry lube them. I could not figure out how to do it as there is just no room behind the blade, the cabinet wall is too close. So I am back to using a splitter and that seems almost as good.

I installed the Shark Guard on my PM 66. It works well and I highly reccomend it. I had to wait about six weeks for delivery so if you are interested, check it out right away. I do not have their e-mail address handy but you can Google Shark Guard and it will come right up.

I'm with Larry on this one. I really like the Shark Guard on my 66. The best reason is...........I use it...........and it does it's job.

With the Gorilla going there is very little dust or chips.

Here are the pictures. Note the splitter is .130" with a .125" blade.

The splitter is adjustable side to side by means of the stud it is mounted on being screwed in and out.
