Is anyone using this gadget? It looks like something I can make on my lathe?

Jerry, I have one of those and I think it's a PIA to get it positioned in the router so it runs balanced. I also have a Trend extension that uses the same collet and nut as the DW625 router. It seems to be perfect as far as balance goes. I got it from The Craftsman Gallery (http://www.thecraftsmangallery.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?page=W/PROD/A/32-120)

It might not be as convenient as far as locking the bit in place but I have Eliminator chucks for both of my DeWalt routers so it isn't a big deal to put the bit into the extension and then insert the extension in the chuck.

Those things look to me like they will do harm to the bearings due to the added moment arm amplyfying the lateral force.

Any extension or long router bit could accelerate wear on the bearings due to the longer lever. Care need to be excercised and light cuts taken to minimize that problem. On the other hand, once in awhile an extension is the only way to get the cutter where you need it.
