Late last night, for some strange reason, I scanned the local paper online classified section and found a Craftsman RAS for sale. There was a note that the ad was an "online only" ad, so I thought just maybe the weekend garage sale crowd might have missed it. I sent and e.mail reply to the seller asking if it was still for sale, and got a reply first thing this morning. I called and a lady answered saying the saw was still for sale and gave directions. Off I went.

In her garage was this Craftsman 2.5h 10" RAS, with a HD roller stand, in very good condition. She wanted $40 for it. I also noticed a couple of other things and asked about them. There was an old Delta Homecrafter scroll saw and and older Atlas Drill Press, both missing motors. I asked price, and she said $20 each. "What about a package deal"..."Sure, how about $30 for all 3" was her reply. My wallet flew out of my pocket and I started pulling them out of the garage. She even helped me load them!

I checked on the Internet, found the recall info, and called Emerson. A new..extensive..blade guard kit, including a new handle, a new table top and a manual for both the kit and saw should be delivered in a couple of weeks!

I'm psyched out. Especially after changing my order just yesterday from a refurb 12" DW705 to a new DW703 with 3 accessories for $209. Stayed pretty much on budget and got a miter saw, a RAS, a drill press and a scroll saw....sans 2 motors. ;)

I'll post more, and better pics when I get them in the shop.

Nice score. The little drill press, is that the motor pulley, or does it have three pulleys for slow speeds? Looks like two belts.

Very nice score...it pays to pay attention sometimes! And apparently that gal wanted those tools "gone", too...thief.

40 for one, 30 for three??? Good thing there wasn't more, you would have gotten it for free! Nice Score!!!

Rich, the 2 pullys are for speed adjust. The motor mounts on the large vertical plate on the back. The belt hanging on the back pully is for the motor.

Jim, I have no idea why I check the online ad...but I just may keep checking...ROF

David, I was hoping there was more so eventually she would have to pay me to haul all the goods away! LOL

Corey, thanks.

The saw looks like is was used very little. There is still some of the thick grease like material on the main support shaft, and wiping the saw off with a dry cloth removes a thin layer of dust and oil and the parts shine like new. The 80 ~ 90 tooth Craftsman blade, original I'm sure, cuts like butter and the cut is straight as an arrow.

Swinging the head into different positions and then locking down is smooth and there is not movement or slop at all. It feels really tight, and the motor is very quiet! Not like my table saw or circular saw at all.
