This is the last of the spalted elm I got from Tom Sontag. Real nice wood to turn and takes a finish like glass.

Kinda messed up the top and had to hide the drive center spikes with a knob. The knob is paduk and the box measures 31/2"x4" tall

Thanks for looking.

Man, that looks sweet Jim! Do you have a shot of it put together? Would love to see it.

Thanks for the pictures!

I'll take one right now but SMC is being fickle about loading pics tonight:)I left the tennon long on the box so as to suspend the lid. Kinda like hovering waiting to set in place. Not sure if my artistic side or feminine is showing, but my wife liked it.

Looks mighty fine to me Jim. Way to recover. Elm turns really nice doesn't it. Sands and finishes nice also. Great work Jim.

Lookin' good, Jim! And I agree: The knob was not to cover up a mistake, but a design feature!!! :) Nice job! :)

Well done, Jim. Nothing ventured nothing gained. I think we learn more from the mistakes than from the successes. Keep 'em coming!:D

Thanks for the kind responses. I really had fun with the elm blanks. My MIL wanted to know who painted it:eek::eek::D It is spalted and thought I had bought it for my wife. 33years and she still thinks my wife got a raw deal---sheeeeesh's;)
