This weeks project was a window seat - I templated the area with cardboard, headed back to the shop and built it - 3 cases of birch ply - there will be a 3" cusion on the top and the pictures don't really show it but there is a small lip on the top molding so that the cushion doesn't slide off.

16 hours from beginning to end. Materials cost was $310.00 Cabinet is 18" deep by 20" high. Customer will paint to match woodwork - the bottom is for pictures. Room is small and also has a piano in it. This is the only sitting area.

Left with request for wine cellar estimate.

Have a great weekend.

Very nice, Gail! This is why I'm not in woodworking as a business. 16 hours? I'd still be drawing pictures!:)

Wow thats very nice work there if I do say so myself (and I do). I like the profile on the top moulding along with the basebaord.

I'll give it an A+...not that you can really hang that on the firdge but its the thought that counts.

Nice work Gail! And only 16 hours...wow. Good luck on the wine cellar. Did you use multiple sheets of cardboard that you then taped together to form the template? Just curious.

Yup, me thinks you have it down to a science! Unlike Bob, I'd still most probably be looking for the pencil to start on the drawing! :o Nicely done! :)

Another fine job, Gail. Should add good functionality to the small room. On the vent in the base...did you connect ductwork to the back side of the grille, or are you simply using the base as a plenum for the air?

Vaughn, yes, I had to vent the air from the existing floor vent. So, my first, but it went without a hitch. The people at Home Depot were a big help when I went in with the "I have no idea what I need" look on my face.

Mike, I had three pieces of cardboard that I layed over each other and then cut with a razor. I made all of my marks on the cardboard and then used them at home to draw the template and then cut the crazy angles with the Festool. I left the cardboard with them so that the upholsterer could use it to make the cushion.

The reason that I state the hours for you all is so that you can see what big things can be done in a little bit of time. It is easy for me to pump out projects because I can work my 16 hours in the shortest number of days, in this case, I started on Tues with the template and was done on thursday. Doing woodworking just on the weekends FEELS like everything takes a long time, but if you all added up the hours, it really wouldn't be as many as you think.

Dang, Gail, I wish I had you around before I sold my house. My old house has a touret in one corner of the bedroom upstairs that has a window seat just like that only it was built by someone who had lost his square and ruler. I always intended to rebuild the unit with nice lookin storage box seats but just never got around to it. Nice job. You work faster than I do.

Nice job Gail.

Hey, how come when I go to Home Depot with my "I have no idea what I need" look, they just ignore me? (this is a rhetorical question, OK guys, I know I'm no adonis :D ).
