OK, no having to save this one:) . This is a piece of mesquite I picked up from Curtis when visiting San Antonio. It's 8 1/2 by 3 inches. I gave it 3 coats of Bush oil and a Beall Buff. I knocked the shine back a little with steel wool. BTW, mesquite is a dense wood, great for turning and finishing.
Thanks for looking.

Ed that is a beautiful bowl. I have always wanted to turn some mesquite. I have been told you can turn it green right down to size and it stays that way even while drying and finishing. Great work.

Nice!! Where did you get the Bush oil? I heard a little about it but I haven't seen any around.

Rich - Woodcraft in Portsmouth, NH has it, so I would imagine it is pretty much available throughout their system.

Ed - That is one nice hunk of bowl! Well done.

Thanks for the comments. Rich, I got the Bush Oil at a woodworking show demo'd by Mr. Bush (no not George). He's a fantastic craftsman, doing lots of big money projects. He does not want to deal with selling by website or an 800 number (yet), but, as Andy said, you can pick the stuff up at most Woodcraft stores. One of the Curtis Lumber vendors had it too. It's a good product, and 3 or more coats will bring up a glossy finish. No affiliation.

Nice bowl, Ed! I like the look of Mesquite. I've yet to try any, but everyone that has seems to really enjoy turning it from what I've read/seen. Looks like you handled this piece very well.

Thanks for the pictures!

Very nicely done, Ed and I just love the grain on that. The only piece of Mesq. I ever did, was substantially smaller and really kinda' plain. LOML still liked it as one of her favortie pieces! Go figure, as she typically would love something closer to what you've shown here! :)

Nice looking bowl, Ed. Have you done anything with the natural edge piece you bought from me yet?

Not yet, Curtis. And I'm still looking at those two big chunks I bought from Dario.
