Has anyone ever bought a Hock replacement scraper blade for the Stanley No. 80 cabinet scraper? I thought the Hock blade was thicker than the stock stanley blade, everything I have read about the Hock states it is 1/16" thick, which seems thinner that the original stanley blade. Won't this contribute to excess chatter of the blade?

Thanks for your help

Eric

Eric:

I bought a Hock replacement blade for a fairly modern (IOW, not as well made) Stanley #80 and it made a dramatic improvement over the stock Stanley blade. (I assume the one it came with was the original, although I can't swear to it.)

As I measure them, the Stanley is roughly .05" thick while the Hock is .06". Not a significant difference, but IIRC, the Hock performs much better, with no chatter, while the Stanley blade chatter a lot. (It's been awhile since I've used the #80, but I remember that once I got the Hock, there was no reason, other than to save if I ever sell the tool, to keep the Stanely blade.)

HTH,
