This is a headboard and footboard with a built on bench I recently finished.
The frame is cherry and for the panels I resawed curly yellow birch to make the panels.
Photos of the process' and jigs used to make the parts for the bed can be seen at
http://www.superwoodworks.com/Projects/ArchedBed.htm (http://www.superwoodworks.com/Projects/ArchedBed.htm) if interested.

Wonderful job of design, wood selection, and execution. Overall great look. I would really like to know the construction detail because my son wants a similar bed. Except that he want the foot board to have the opposite curvature. And he want the posts turned on a 45 so you have the points turning toward the head board and side rails. Please provide details. And thanks for posting.

Wow!

After reviewing your site (thanks), I have a few questions.
I see details for the panel lamination and reference to a core.
What did you use for the core? Is it two or three layers?

Thanks for sharing.

The curly Yellow Birch figure is perfect for a project of this size and scale. It is not overpowering or too intense, but draws attention to the whole design. It is one of my favorite figured woods for larger projects like what you have so beautifully designed and built . Outstanding work and use of materials.

Thanks Jason,
The bench was a nessesity because my wife did not want side boards.
The headboard attaches to the metal mattress frame and the footboard is freestanding. Likely would not have been my preference either.

The core I used was 1/4 inch luan. It worked well and the panels stayed flat afterwards.

VERY VERY NICE. I was wondering if you would share any information on how you finished the bed. I didn't see anything on the referenced page that described that. I really like how the finish came out.
I sprayed 2 coats of Sealcoat, then 2 and 3 coats of Minwax wipeon poly and of course sanding between coats.

Awesome work Gary! I have some of that birch, know in our parts as 'flame birch' I never thought to resaw it, but I may very well study your process. I've bookmarked your page in my favorites.
