Latest lamp turned. My sister wanted a floor lamp for her daughter's 25th anniversary. Made from birds eye maple and cherry.

Very nice Ed. I like the form and color. A lamp like that is something I want and need. You know you'll be getting questions when I get around to it!

Thanks for sharing - it's a great present. I'm sure she'll enjoy it.

Another beauty Ed. I see you created the lighter wood teardrops in this one as well. Is this a signature mark of yours? I like it!:)

Great looking lamp. Nice form to the turning. How did you get the hole through the middle for the cord - glue-up?

Yeah, that's REALLY nice! Are you going to try to turn a shade?

I turned a couple of them this past weekend...they started out being bowls or hollow forms:rolleyes: :D

Hey! Lamp shades are upside down funnels. I can do that.

Very nice, Edward.

If you wouldn't mind could you give a non turner a couple details?
How tall and how many pieces did you glue up?

Beautiful! The length of the drill bit used to tap that work of art must be pretty impressive as well............ or is it a "grooved" center in the glue up?

Thank you all for your comments. Not able to get on Saw Mill Creek yesterday, so am just catching up. To answer some of the questions.

For drilling the hole through the center for the wire, used a 3/8 auger bit thru a hollow tail stock. Drill 1/2 way, then turn around and go in from the other end.

Lamp heighth was about 60". Glued together 3 pieces about 20" in heigth, then cut them off at 18". Glued 3 layers around, except on the bottom and middle piece where I added a 4th layer where I wanted a greater thickness. The base is about 2 1/2" tall. Glued up strips of 5/4, the bottom one being about 12" x 12", next layer about 9" x 9" and the top layer about 5" x 5"

Teardrops happen to be whichever wood is used on the 2d and 3rd layers. On my personal web site I have another floor lamp which used black walnut and maple so it was a little different. My sister wanted light woods. I believe that my web site is part of the information you can get from the Members List. If not, and your interested, email and I will send it to you.

Shades, NO have not tried them. Have only turned a couple of bowls so not sure that I want to take the time to turn a shade. There is an individual in the northeast here that turns shades and they go for $500 to $1,000 each.

Again, thank you all.
