Well, I don't have the "site" for sawmills, but a suggestion.
Have you contacted GC Mill right there in Woodstock?
On Route 14, Just off the west edge of Woodstock.

I've bought lumber there, and seen them do log runs for other folks. He has a bandsaw mill and access to a kiln.

Hey, this is great news. I live in Chicago's Western suburbs and have been looking for a less expensive place purchase wood.
Planing and jointing aren't really a problem. I can even store some amount of wood to let it dry. Heck, it would give me a good excuse to build a handing shelf system in the garage.
Anyone know of mills west of the city?
Regards,
Michael

Another place is Kirklands,
Kirkland Sawmill is on Route 72 which is Main Street in Kirkland, Illinois, about 9 miles west of Genoa. It is a tiny town out near route 39.
Kirkland Saw Mill, 606 W. Maine Street, Kirkland, IL 60140

They have a HUGE 5 foot diameter circular saw mill used to make their stock for sale. (Really cool to see in action, terrifying actually)
I don't know if they offer milling services to others.

Google is your friend.
I know that at least MN, WI, and IL all have state government compiled directories of wood products manufacurers - which includes sawmills.
Put illinois sawmill into google and the first hit is a link to this pdf.

I live SW of Chicago. I can get a decent price at Rockler if I buy 100BF or more (red oak about $3/BF). I also last fall found a group at WoodNet that met in Downers Grove with pre-ordered rough sawn oak/walnut/cherry from a mill in MI. I think I paid $3/BF for walnut and $1.90/BF for red oak (the red oak came in 3-qualities).

I've been out of the Chicagoland area for two years now, and still miss Kirkland.

Mike, we have several down this way. One on Lason, One in Green Valley, and one just outside Canton.
Those are the ones I know of for sure!

There is a small sawmill in Zion, IL called the Russell Mill. The manager is Charles Prymula. Phone is 847-395-5190 but, usually, it is easier to reach him on his cell phone: 312-405-3880. Good luck.

...is Badger Hardwoods. I've not dealt with them personally, but it wouldn't be far from Woodstock.
