Just so Mark will get off my back :p , here's a Walnut bowl I just finished with some more playing with my burner along the rim. 14 1/2" diameter by 3" deep. A few coats of Watco then buffed.

Well, if that's the best you can do just go ahead and stick to hollow forms...

LOL :D

It's a beauty - and it's ABOUT TIME... two thumbs up from this red-headed Arky...

Ditto what Barry said, although I wouldn't hold back as much as he did. I would love to make a bowl like that, it is perfect.

Can you show us the bottom? It looks like there is no foot, is that correct?

Wonderful, Travis! That piece of walnut really speaks; the form is great and the rim treatment help define the piece very nicely. Yum!

Tom,

Didn't Travis tell you? He doesn't turn the bottom of his "bowls"....he leaves the in the "rough". He saves his talent for finishing the bottoms of his hollow forms. :p :p :p :p :D

Hey Travis....let's see the foot on that bowl....

Thanks everyone. John, I'm married, so I'm wrong several times a day.;) :(
Tom, no foot on the bottom, just a small concave area, nothing special.

Thanks, as a newbie I'm struggling with the bottoms. That grain is spectacular from the bottom.

That is a WOW. Really nice Travis. I see you didn't use the little pointy thing to burn it. What exactly was the design of the burner tip?

Wow...Is that just some coiled up nichrome wire?

Travis Stinson
03-22-2006, 9:42 PM
Yup. I posted a link to the plans to make the pen a while back. It's basically a short piece of 1/2" PVC pipe and a couple connectors from Radio Shack soldered onto the ends of the wire, epoxied in place with high temp epoxy. This is connected to a battery charger with a dimmer switch wired in series with the AC input to the charger to vary the heat. A couple inches of 18 ga. nichrome wire to make the tip. Very easy to make.;)
