Amazon is featuring a 23 ga Pin Nailer by Porter Cable (Model PIN 100). There are two $25 rebates associated with this unit for a net price of $73.

As I understand it, this unit handles pin-nails in the 1/2" to 1" MAX range.

I know little about pinners, other than I think I want one. My questions are:

Irrespective of price, should I want a pin-nailer with a 1 1/4" capacity? Am I too limited with this unit at a 1" maximum capacity? Can a 1 1/4" pinner replace my 1 1/4" capacity 18 ga PC brad nailer in most applications?

Price considered, is this a good deal on what it is?

I would like a little more capacity, but plenty of people are happy with their PC and that is a good price. Grex makes a model that shoots 1 3/8 pins, but its close to $200.

FWIW, the Senco - and the Accuset it replaced - both use 1" max. The little pins deflect so easily, the 1" is probably the practical limit. I've probably shot a couple thousand pins through mine, and have found that I use more 3/4" pins than all other sizes combined.

Same nailer here. About two years old. Good nailer.
Don't know why you need anything longer than 1" with 23 gauge.

Ditto. On what was said above. That's a great price. I have 5-6 P.C. nail guns all have worked flawlessly. I found myself using it alot more than I thought. mostly jigs........

My PC pin nailer has worked flawlessly for me. I only have 3/4 inch pins, because that has always done what I wanted. Someone borrowed my gun and bought more 3/4 pins as a thank you, so I may have a lifetime supply - I only use a couple on a piece of trim!

Remember that the pins are tiny - great to hold something in place while the glue dries, but not strong enough to provide structural strength like regular nails. They are so small, I normally don't fill the holes at all... the final sanding does enough filling.

I have the Bostich.
It will shoot 1-3/16" pins.
Be aware, as already been mentioned, is that they are so thin they deflect more easily in hard woods than their bigger cousins. Just had two blow through the side of a project and all I could do was clip them off and sand flush. Good news is that they are hard to see.

If you are looking at spending 200+ dollars on a pin nailer. I think the 23 ga. Nikle has the best value. It shoots both brads and headless pins up to 1 9/16" long. Ii think on amazon it is 200 or 210 I forget which.
