Does anyone here have a source for buying sandpaper in bulk? Buying from my local Ace Hardware is really getting expensive. Thanks in advance!

Good question.
I buy mine from Klingspor
They sell bulk boxs.
They will sell you fine grits if you ask.
There is a catch
Some of the paper is going to be VERY VERY stiff.
I believe they call it planer paper---so you are going to have some funky with the good.
So it's not the greatest way to go but is the cheapest that I have found.
No I do not work for Klingspor ---I just buy sandpaper from them

kurt, i use old belts from the edge and widebelt sanders for lathe work. ask at a local shop they`ll usually give `em to you and you`ll be supprised at the quality compared to hardware store paper, even used...02 tod

I use 2in wide shop rolls (50meter) from either Klingspor or SAIT......$20-26.....I have the rolls mounted on a bar above my lathe and you can tear as much or as little as you need. The backing is very flexible and each roll can last up to a year.

This is absolutely the best deal going for hook and loop sandpaper for power sanding, 3 meter x 36" sheets that you cut/punch out whatever sizes you need.;) http://commerce.riverweb.com:8002/HNLsandpaper.html

.....We have to be careful of what we buy.....cheaper is not always better! I got 2 rolls of 240 and 320......They were quickly delivered and turned out to be a much lesser product than I had hoped.

Kurt,

Klingspor also sells a 35 sheet pack of 9 x 11 cloth backed paper they call J-Flex which in my opinion is the finest on the market. The packs include 7 different grits, 5 sheets per grit, 80, 100, 120, 150, 180, 220, and 280. They sell for $29.95 per pack. I usually add a 5 pack of 320 and 400 for good measure and they last for quite a while.

They also sell the hook and loop discs in different grits and I use them with a foam backed attachment in my power drill for power sanding. I start with 80, 120, 220, 280, 320 and usually finish off with 0000 steel wool.

I have no affiliation with Klingspor. I just like their product.

Travis or Jim - That's quite the deal. Two questions.

What are you using to "cut or punch the holes"? Hole saw? Pie cutter? A specially made Bonker?
And have you found a use for the waste?

Andy
Q #1 I leave mine square, I like the flaps. works almost like the scalloped edge of the New Wave Disks. I also think the corners being left on helps protect the disk holder from wear if you hit the chuck on occasion like I do sometimes.
But if you want them round a sharpened piece of 2" or 3" pipe will cut/punch out round ones.

Q #2 what waste:D

Andy, I have a short length of 2" and 3" pipe with a cap and the other end sharpened on the grinder. Just bonk em out on a block of wood. And not enough waste to speak of.

Thanks to the both of ya's.

I'm running low on current stock, so this looks like a winner.

Andy a full sheet will last a very long time.
If you don't want to invest a lot of money at one time in sand paper you could do like a few of us did at Dick Parr's BBQ and get a few guys to go in with you and divide it up. Just a thought;)
