The new shop isn't done yet; still have benches, drawers, cabinets, tool racks, mitersaw stand, etc., etc., etc. to build. Things have just barely started to green up, but with nice weather already here . . . and all this porch, I had to take time out to build a porch swing for the LOML:) The shop wiring, walls, lighting, and DC are done and the machines are all up and working so I really had no more (good:D ) excuses. Here is the swing back glued up.

I ran out of slow set Titebond and just barely got the back together before the glue set. Gotta love those Besseys. I'm making this thing out of the Oak taken from the lot 2 years ago.

Alan,

What a great looking house!!! That huge wrap around porch really adds to the look of it and I'm sure will provide many hours of relaxation. Quick question - basement or crawl space??

See you Friday..........

Nice house Alan!....where can I find plans?....along with the swing, will you have a few rockers? I remember the old Brumby rockers my grandfolks had up in N. Georgia....I was small and I remember them as HUGE...

( I wonder if there are any plans for similar rockers avail. for free download?...hmmmn)

Gonna be one more nice porch swing I can see from here. One nice porch too. We made our kitchen cabinets out of the oak trees cut off our lot when we started clearing the land to build the house. My wife loves it that way.

I like your landscaping you have going on there too.

Design was based on designs of William Poole (Wilimington, NC)- his design books are available at the big box stores. http://www.williampooledesigns.com/home.html My brother an I put it into Autocad using just the magazine rough dimensions and worked it until the floor plan and elevations were close to what I wanted. I then worked back and forth over the internet with an architectural draftsman here who also uses Autocad. He did the final builders plan.

To fill up the porch I plan to make a few rockers and probably one more swing.

I took a pattern off of a cheap rocker we have on the front porch.

My shop is above the 3-car garage. I've got a web site I built to keep family updated on the building process, though it hasn't been updated in forever (one of these days :) ) but shows the size of the shop.

The porch is to die for! The house feature accompanying the porch is very nice, too....:D Very kewel idea with the I-beam hoist setup for the shop. Excellent idea!

And you are right, a porch swing is just the ticket. I look forward to seeing more of it as the project progresses.

Gorgeous house Alan! My wife would absolutely KILL to have a porch like that! Everybody has to do what they "gotta do". The shop will get done and it will be darned well worth the wait when it is finished up. Take your time, enjoy the trip getting there.

Alan,

When you are ready to sell, let me know because that is the house my wife is always talking about. The shop works for me as well. Very nicely done

Bob

May you have many years of joy in your new home.

Alan, that porch (as well as the rest of the house) is very attractive, functional, and appears to be well built. Congratulations!

I just finished spending about 40 (thoroughly enjoyable) minutes looking at the site that describes and shows the construction. Of course, it will be a LOT better when more details of your bonus/loft/shop have been added. Please let us know when you have added that information.
