Well, after Willie's wonderful gauge he posted, I felt compelled to also post a freshly made tool.

This is a panel saw, 22" length, 9 ppi. Design is taken from a Harvey Peace panel saw. Handle is Cocobolo.

Take care, Mike

Beautiful saw, Mike. I just may have to place an order with you.

Holy Cow!!! That is a beautiful saw. Do you make saws for sale? If so, you must have a lot of orders. If not, I'd be interested in references on how they're made. Again, that is a beautiful tool.

Your saws are such works of art, besides being functional! Great work, Mike!

Ah Willie, coming from you that is a compliment indeed!

The short answer is yes, we do, to both.

But you certainly have the skills--as do many here--to have a go at it. One of the members here, Leif Hanson, has documented the making of the saws he does.

Scroll down to the link that is simply "Back Saws" to see his process. But Leif has many more interesting links there too.

Take care, and thank you all for the kind words.

That wouldn't be headed to the U.K. would it?

Philly's dying to get his hands on it.

Truly beautiful Mike. I particularly like the way you thickened and strengthened the bottom part of the handle which as always been a weak point on panel sized saws. It is nice and heavy without looking klunky- a hard thing to do.

Thanks Matt and Dave!

We try hard, Dave! Which is one of the reason they are hand shaped. It's a lot easier to control how much and where to take off wood by rasp than a shaper. And besides, all the curves change around the handles, so a shaper may get us part way there, but we would either need to compromise and leave it at that, redesign the handles to allow the shaper, or simply follow with the rasps. Rasp work can go pretty fast.

Take care, Mike
