Been away for awhile and thought I'd better get busy. These are two projects I've finished just last night.

The first is a spalted elm vase/bowl. The second is an ambrosia maple box. I got the ambrosia maple from John Hart. What a guy!;)

The box lid is a little tight as my wife has a hard time opening it up. I told her it was to protect all of her valuables. Hey how else to protect em cept in an unopenable container??

Box is about 31/2" in dia. same length. Roughed out and let air dry for about 2 weeks then finished. Actually had a crack that healed it's self air drying. I almost threw it out.

Nice work Jim. I like the burn on the in and outside of the rim of the vase/bowl. Nice effect.

Nice work. I wanted to ask you about the burn on the rim. How did you do that? Really looks nice to me. My kids are always saying, "Why do you make the lids so tight?" I always answer them like I planned it that way. haha I guess the perfect fit is the ones that have a nice, soft 'pop' sound when taken off. Mine are always just a little too tight or just a litte too loose. The wood moves because that's what wood does.

Ernie it was by mistake that I did the first burn. Was finishing with Mylands at some very high speed and the rag started to smoke:eek::eek: Started to run for the fire puter-outer but when the smoke cleared I had a nice burn on the sharp edge. I liked it, I did.:D:D

Both pieces are really nice! The wood makes them both very interesting. I like the box on it's side - spill proof!
