I like the concept, but the fact that the 1 1/2" ports would not easily fit my 2 1/2" Shop Vac hoses ruled it out for me. The price was a bit more than I was willing to spend, although is seems fair, considering the materials and fabrication necessary.

I did recently add a cheap plastic "separator" lid to a 5-gallon bucket, and I am seeing a noticable reduction in filter clogging on my Shop Vac, and thus more consistent suction from the vac. (For now, the Shop Vac is all the "DC" I have.) After looking at all the different prices available for essentially the same molded plastic product, I bought the $8.00 Harbor Freight mini-separator (http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=9586).

Interesting...looks like they are leveraging the mini-cyclone they developed for the floor sanding market a few years ago in another way. I don't think this would have appeal to me, however, as I don't use the CT22 or the old shop vac in situations that the pre-separation would be any kind of advantage.

An acquaintance of mine build something like this years ago (http://www.mgsweb.com/woodworking/cyclone/minicyclone.htm), so I can say that it likely works as advertised.

Another option is Clear Vue has come out with a version recently that does hook up to a 2 1/2" shop vac hose. IIRC it is about 180.00. Neat idea, but more than I want to spend for something I won't use that often. There is a video of it working and showing the empty shop vac after gobbling up a bunch of saw dust. Jim.

My first view of this little guy was in the latest issue of Wood mag. I could see where shops that use the shop vac alot could benefit from one of these. What I liked the most was Oneida's claim in their ad that 99% of the dust goes into the drum before your filter. Anything that would eliminate having to clean that wretched shop vac filter everytime you use it IMO is worth looking into...
