Finally getting ready to cut the parts for the Pentz cyclone.

In preperation I have transfered the dimensions to Autocad and plotted out an 1/8"=1'-0" scaled version just to proactice and sort of test my copy. Here are some pics of the scaled model in paper:

I was ready to strart cutting two days ago so I decided to crank up the pneumatic shears I bought from HF but they were a disappointment. So chcucked them and went and bought an electric shear from Northern Tools, here's my test of their performance on a peice of 22ga.

The cut is about an 1/8" wde but leaves a nice straight line.

This week end I will be cutting the full size templets and perhaps even cutting the steel!

Looking good Julio, your hands will thank you for buying that shear!

Cheers!

Julio, What dimension are you making your cyclone?

18" dia x 52" high, I have a 3hp rated (5hp) motor with a 14" material handling impeller.

Its based on Bill Pentz design. All the information you ever needed to know about fine dust and dust collecting is at his website http://billpentz.com/woodworking/cyclone/Index.cfm

I'm curious, what was wrong with the HF shear?

Also, did you get the jet impeller, or something else?

The shear hardly moved, didnt cut and when it managed to get a few inches into the work it stalled and simply stopped and leaked air and oil.

Part may have been due to insuficiant cfm. In any case it didnt work out.

One thing about HF tools in general. Most every tool I have bought from them has lasted no more than 3 or 4 times of use. I dont want to go into a tirade about HF but I dont think I will buy any other tools from them.

I bought the motor from HF I got a good deal and I hope it will last but I am not betting the farm on it.

The impeller is a 14" material handling impeller from Ed Morgano. I will post pictures of the impeller tomorrow. I bought the blower housing from Ed also. Ed builds and sells the "Clear-Vue" cyclone kits.

Theres a whole world of information at Bill Pentz's site, including the "Clear-Vue"
