Well got a Elm Bowl re-turned after DNA and drying for 3 weeks. I am not sure what type of Elm it is. I have only known them as Chinese Elms. Thats what everyone around here call them. Anyway it is 7" across and about 4" deep. It is the biggest so far and the best. This one and the hickory one I paid a lot of attention to detail. Anyway it has one coat of Behlens Salad Bowl finish on it. Going to give it at least two and probably 3 coats. The SWMBO says she's keeping it and using it. I want to see how the finish holds up before I do the DIL's salad bowl set. Let me know what you think.

Looks good Bernie. I've got 4 coats of GF salid bowl on an elm bowl and it really looks good, just takes some coats and light sanding.

Thanks. I appreciate all the comments. I had fun doing this one. It was actually harder than the smaller ones because if you mess up on details it will show a lot more than on the smaller ones.

Besides that I just wanted to show Andy I could make one of them Dark Sweet Cherry ice cream bowls that you didn't have to go back for seconds. :D :D

Bernie, Love the shape and the way that grain pops. Strawberry? Will it work for chocolate just as well?:D Great job, looking forward to getting to your skill level.

Beautiful bowl! I love the grain in that wood. Great finish. I guess you can always tell a turners shop 'cause all the little sticks have X's on the ends of them. Haha

That's a beauty, Bernie. Looks like the same elm that I've turned. I've never known for sure if it's chinese or siberian or if there's even a difference but it has some wild grain to it.

Ken you will get there my friend. I just starting to get around and realize little details here and there. That makes a big difference.

Curt I don't know which Elm it is either. Growing up I was always told they were chinese elm. People today call them chinese elm. These do get that dutch elm problem. Don't know but it sure has some nice wild grain to it. The wife told me tonight she wants a salad bowl set made out of it. Soooo guess I will. Especially since I can get a ton of it for free.

Thanks again.
