My first try at this was several years ago on a piece of spalted oak. Suffice to say that it did NOT look like this in the end. More like a mangled starfish. This is ready for it's alcahol soak. I just wanted proof that I got this far.........just in case.....You never know. Pretty wood, Mr. Hart.

Cool! My Three Legged Monster will have a four legged cousin.

My thanks to all of you for your kind words. Andy, I figure with four legs it ought to "stand up " to any flavor of ice cream.

That is cool Doug, I sure hope it holds together for ya during the soak. I sure want to see it when you are done. Nice job.

Can't wait Doug!! Did the wood have some of that red stain to it as well? Doesnt seem to fade on the pieces I've done so far. Neat project...hope she survives!:)

John, No red stain in the two I have done so far. The other was a smaller block and got a large spiral gouge in it as I started to part it off. Another for the reject pile. It will hold pencils.....

I get skeered just looking at that thing. Did you cut the feet with a jigsaw after the initial hollowing out of the bottom?

No jigsaw........just the lathe. You stay very aware of where your fingers are.
