what to you use for a top coat finish on kitchen cabinets?
I'm thinking about a general finish water base stain.

Lacquer mainly. Do use some water based poly for bath cabinets.

Can you spray or do you brush or wipe-on?

I like to brush or wipe on finishes. I've sprayed on water based poly before.

Sprays easy. Just use light coats. Lay everything you can down flat.

Agree...and I like to spray the interior surfaces before assembling the cabinets. It requires a little more time due to masking glue surfaces, but the end results are easier to achieve without spraying uneven or getting finish in the face!
