Gawd I love this free wood:)

A neighbors spruce came down in the last storm. Got two nice 14' logs out of it, and now there's only the top left and maybe 8' of that to get. Nice going this time of year because the ground is still frozen, so dirt isn't as much of a factor on the log after dragging it out. Also won't tear up my driveway, but these day's are running out.....but I don't mind, cause I've got plenty to do on the house.

didn't have much of a winter as far as snow wise, but that's OK by me:)

John are you living in the house already?

Do you have a shop building? If not, are you planning one?

It would be nice to see a house layout. Do you have one that you could post?

I am thinking that you're doing more during those cold, winter nights than chasing the boss around the camp...like practicing with PhotoShop... ;)

Frank...John's shop is on the bottom floor and the "house to be" is on the top floor...mixing pleasure with pleasure, as it were...

CJH, where in the big Maine woods are you located, or are you in the witness protection plan?

I live just east of Bangor in Amherst. Beautiful location:)
Not moved in yet, but have the shop somewhat functional, but no way ready for any kind of production because nothing is in its final place. We only decide to move on top due to the scenery, looking down the driveway. The original plan was to build a "L" shape structure including the house and shop attached. Once I started the gable logs and saw what was there, I had the wife come up and have a look and we both came to wanting to move up over the shp. I had to scratch my head a little to work out some sort of floor plan to fit all that we wanted, and bingo! Its gona be just perfect for the two of us.
I built a temporary camp for the two of us to stay in while I build, and my equipment stayed in storage. As soon as I had everything water tight, I brought all my equipment in, and started working on the inside of the shop to a certain degree. In good weather I jump outside.
You can see the camp to the right in the pic below

Thanks for the pictures John!!!

If you think an ATV makes for moving the logs easy. You should try a skid steer with grapples & a set of forks. Great for logging ( I have a Lucas Mill) & great for making fire wood.

I wish I had access to some of your white pine, here in MN I have mostly red oak.

Thanks again for the pics, jim

The "Airline Road". That's blueberry country and it is beautiful up on the blueberry barrens. I get up into Maine from time to time. Maybe sometime when I'm going to be in the area, I'll email you and see if you want visitors.

actually....... they are some white vinyl cheapo's from the Depot I tried in the camp and they were pretty decent, but didn't care for the look at all with a log home. Got some special fussion paint by Krylon and painted them forrest green. Ordered a vinyl sunburt to go on top and painted it as well. I had it up there temp. till I figured how I was going to carve it into the logs, so it would be flush with the window and give the appearance of a solid unit.

John, nobody can challenge your woodworking skills. I like your house/shop. The year round view has to just bring a smile. Looking forward to your shop layout.

CJohn,

A question, what do you have for Internet access way out there in the middle of nowhere?

Got DSL right up to the house, but I'm waiting to make the switch from dial up. I use Eartlink like I have been for years now.
