Havn't posted lately caus I've been buisy on my kayak project. Finished stripping and got the coaming around the cockpit done yesterday. Next comes staple pulling, plaining, and sanding. After that on to fiber glassing.
As soon as I am done will have to start on another as LOML has laid clame to the first one. Thanks for looking.http://www.sawmillcreek.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=33790&stc=1&d=1142202731

Dave, that's a beatiful kayak. Great work.

Since I'm sure you'll have it finished in time (or even if you don't) why not bring it to the Spring Messabout? It will be during the first weekend in June at Hok-Si-La park just up river from Lake City. Here's a link which I hope works: http://tinyurl.com/dngwy

That is just too cool. I have this itch to build one and will someday.

What plans did you use?

Where there any surprises in the process?

Sounds like you will build another so it must not be an impossible task.

Congrats on a great project.

Best regards, Tom

Hi Dave,

That is SWEET! Way above my paygrade. I'm researching stitch and glue plans.

Maurice;
Thanks for the kind words. The strongback is made from 1/2" CDX plywood frames mounted on a 12' 2x4. A straight 12' 2x4 is almost impossible to find so I built one out of plywood and pine.

John;
The finished weight of the kayak is supposed to be between 35 and 45 lbs.

Tom;
Thanks, the plans are from Guillemot Kayaks. It is a 14' Great Auk. The biggest surprise was how fast the stripping went.

That is so cool. How much time do you figure you have in it? And would you think for someone who never built one to try it? Thanks for showing it.
