Well here's another stab at putting two wood types together in a Hollow Form. This Vase stands 6" Tall and is 5" in diameter. Finished with Behlen's Woodturner Finish and buffed. Thanks for lookin'!!

Now it's time for Rachel to do her Bonker!!:)

That's nice John, I love the two woods, of course how can you go wrong with Walnut! The finish looks great!

You and I have the same taste in shapes John. I like that form but I am having trouble with it. I think, from looking at yours, that I just always leave the foot too big in diameter. Also, do you have a planer or jointer to smooth the wood before gluing or do you just go with whatever the saw makes? Really nice vase.

Thanks guys!
Rich, I use the sander to get things flat and mating properly. Don't really trust my jointer skills. The bottom was hollowed first and used the parting tool to get it flat. The walnut was kiln-dried store-bought boards..already flat. I just stacked them and glued them.

If you look closely, you will see a tiny unevenness at the Maple/Walnut join where I used uneven pressure in my clamping...oops!!:o I sanded some ebony and used the dust to color the epoxy and clamped it between centers on the lathe to make sure everything was centered.

Nope...no bugs Barry.;) In fact, I'm thinking that this Ambrosia Maple is ideal for our joint project. I'm starting on it tomorrow.

Thanks again ya'll:)
